9 Centers of Human Design and the Gene Keys
Using the defined and undefined centers to move from shadow to gift.
I’ve talked about the correlations between Human Design and the Gene Keys before. Where Human Design explores who you are and how you operate in the world around you, the Gene Keys delve into your higher purpose as an individual and as one with the all.
As we contemplate the 64 gene keys, and explore the shadow and gift of each, we uncover, or remember, aspects of ourselves and how we can learn and evolve and if needed, de-condition ourselves and get back into living in alignment within our design.
The 9 centers of Human Design help us understand where we learn the most and where we may find the conditioning that challenges us as we move out of shadow and into gift.
Each of the 9 centers is either defined (colored in on your chart) or undefined (empty or white on your chart) It’s the undefined centers that are our greatest teachers and where we are most susceptible to societal conditioning. Where we’ve been open for society to place limitations on us based on “social norms” or “expectations”. And in these undefined aspects is where we’ll find the hints to help us move from shadow to gift to siddhi in the Gene Keys.
The open, or undefined, centers are where we experience life through outside influences and are energetically inconsistent and therefore unreliable. They are where often find our “not self”. By following our strategy and authority we can shift out of our not self themes and stay true to our design.
For example, with an undefined heart center we may feel the need to prove ourselves to others. Gate 21 specifically deals with control of resources. On the higher frequency end of the spectrum (gift), Gate 21 is about valuing all resources and finding balance. On the lower frequency end of the spectrum (shadow), it’s about the control of resources to feed the ego. It’s a theme of people pleasing and a lack of self worth.
Similarly, a defined throat center allows for us to manifest our truth with honestly and clarity especially when strategy and authority are followed. If strategy and authority are not followed with a defined throat, sometimes that need to speak can create an urge to talk too much or give energy away. An undefined throat center might manifest as a fear of not being noticed so the not-self mind thinks up ways to attract attention, causing pressure to talk, or act out of turn. In reality, when strategy and authority are followed, an open throat center naturally attracts attention! If they wait, the invitation to speak will come at the appropriate time.
Within all of these centers, both defined and undefined, the gates (gifts) that are activated (or not) in each center further define or clarify where the opportunities for learning, evolving, or de-conditioning exist for each of us. By sticking to our strategy and authority, we can learn to express the gifts of the Gene Keys (gates) and move out of shadow.
